Several other items are included in the box, some needed and some that make you wonder if you’re forgetting something. Included are: two identical door latches (they call them Key Cylinder), a user manual, and installation sheet, a screw pack with an assortment of wood and metal screws, some round spring-things that you never use, a rubber gasket that you don’t use, a pin-tool that you don’t need (for unlocking interior doors with a push lock), a cardboard tool box containing a claw hammer, a wood rasp, a Phillips screwdriver, and an unusual Forstner twist-drill bit. Throw all of the tools away because you don’t need it (except the screwdriver). The drill bit is interesting because it has a tube welded across the top, which is presumably meant for some kind of cross-brace to use for leverage when hand-drilling through a wooden door, but it’s worthless for a drill-motor. What’s missing from the tool kit is the 4 mm metric Allen key that you must have to remove and install the door handles. In fact, later in the user manual it calls for using two of them when resetting the lock. The installation sheet folds open and has templates to use for the door and wall. If you also have a dead-bolt lock, make sure that it’s sufficiently high above the door handle, or else you’ll have interference. I had interference and had to fabricate metal plates for the inside and outside of the door to cover the holes. To complete the installation, you need to look at the pictures to figure out what to do, because the English translation of the Chinese instructions is practically worthless. Once installed, find 4 AA batteries and put them in. The lock is now functional and will open with any fingerprint and a numeric code they supply. When it comes to programming the lock with various users’ fingerprints, few of the actions that the user manual specifies will occur, actually happen. It talks about beeps and sounds, and the lock makes this noise, but not when they say they will happen.

Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. See All Buying Options Add to Wish List Disabling it will result in some disabled or missing features. You can still see all customer reviews for the product. It's often humorous, lacking in important detail, inaccurate, and generally only serves as a rough guide. Opening the box, the first item you notice is beer-bottle opener. Save this because you’ll need it later when you attempt to program the lock. Once you remove the Styrofoam packaging containing the lock from the box, you notice that there’s no apparent way to remove the lock from the Styrofoam, and of course there are no instructions. The lack of coherent instructions is a common theme. Once you figure out which screws to remove to take the lock apart, you can extract it from the Styrofoam. Do not attempt cut he Styrofoam away as you might damage the wiring.

VERY DANGEROUS situation. I have tried to contact the seller several times and have gotten no response. Please try again later. From the United StatesEverything about this lock speaks to the communication issues the Chinese seem to have with self-translating things into English. Also, it will sometimes sing a song and stop allowing you to program altogether, but I haven’t figured out what this means. The user manual talks about having to hold-down the “1” button to enter the programming mode but I found this to be unnecessary, just a simple press worked. Holding down the “1” button causes the lock to go into the rest-state. It talks about needing to “put the finger to be enrolled on the fingerprint collection window, and collect twice”. We could not figure out what this meant because as soon as you remove your finger it goes into the rest-mode. It goes on to say in another box, “remove the finger and press one more time”. There is no instruction regarding what you need to press, and the lock goes into the rest-state as soon as you remove your finger. Sometimes it will program a fingerprint on the first try, while other times it will never confirm a fingerprint. We bought this lock for an elderly person so she wouldn’t have to remember to carry a key, but it refuses to work with any of her fingerprints, though it will work with everyone else’s. Another reviewer on the Adel 3398 advertisement said it would not work with his Asian-friend’s prints. Fortunately, it allows for a digital code, but the code must be 11 numbers in length(!). To reset or erase the programming, there’s a section in the user manual that talks about removing two batteries, inserting the two supplied Allen keys, and reinstalling the batteries (not sure what to do with the Allen keys). I hope I never have to do this. The lock itself appears to be of high quality and is quite handsome on our door. Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2018 I too thought this was a great product. Bought it less than a year ago. The teeth that pull back the latch have sheared off. This meant that I could not get the lock to open from the inside or the outside. Luckily, this was on a workshop with a garage door so I could get out that way. Otherwise, I would have had to break a window.

This was not a cheap lock when I purchased but definitely unreliable and even dangerous in some circumstances. I would NOT recommend this to anyone. It was a waste of money. Please try again later. Please try again later. Eric and Fam 1.0 out of 5 stars The unlocking mechanism intermittently fails (the scanner works and gives a confirmation beep, but the locking mechanism motor sounds like it's giving out). That's too bad; this was a great lock when it worked, but now it's a very expensive paperweight. We're trying to get into the habit of locking our garage door to limit access to our home in case a burglar makes it into the garage (which is a very common entry point for thieves). We originally had a (very thick) knob with a keypad on it. It worked well enough, but it looked a bit chintzy with the cheapo clear keys, blue backlight, and super-thick knob (which houses 4 AAA batteries). We acquired this doorknob to replace it. This product is a quantum leap upwards in quality. The entire body, except for the fingerprint-reading module, is a heavy metal with a satin finish. The movement is damped and has very positive stops at the end of knob travel. The spring tension of the levers have very good resistance. Basically, every part of this device feels good to the touch. The most important aspect of this device - the fingerprint reader - is super accurate. I'm comparing this to my iPhone6, which often mis-reads my fingertips, especially when my fingers are a little dry or when I do something active immediately before trying to unlock my phone. On the other hand, this Adel fingerprint reader has been 100% on all 4 of my fingers that I've programmed into it. You can touch a 9V battery to the bottom terminals to run the scanner. - Has a physical key backup, in case the scanner doesn't work, PIN doesn't work, the batteries are dead, and you don't have a 9V battery handy. You remove the handle lever (with an allen wrench) which exposes a physical key hole.

The kit comes with 2 physical keys which look like regular house keys (in case you want to make copies) Cons: - Does not come with any allen wrenches. You need a 2mm allen wrench in order to install 1 of the handle levers - You have to drill an additional small hole into your door (they provide the hand-drilling tool). Not very difficult to do, since they provide a paper template. Conclusion: BUY IT! Definitely one of the nicest door locks I've ever seen, in any residential or business building. This is exactly what I'd expect to see in a high-end secure facility. Note: this review was done on a review sample provided by the manufacturer. Please try again later. Please try again later. My lock smith of some 30 years said they couldn't do anything with it. I agree with the other posters, the manual is confusing, and in my case wrong. Switches for reprogramming were never even soldered to the board although there is the place for them.
