The system I put my 6162rf on had been dealer locked so I had to replace the panel.went with vista 20p and added envislink3 for smart phone control and messaging. We do not require a long term contract or charge activation fees. We’d love to have the opportunity to earn your business. It has 3 control panels,6motion sensors and a couple of magnetic contact sensors. As this is a very old system we are looking at upgrading it to something more recent. I read on this site the Vista 20p is an option and very cheap but not sure if that makes sense. I would like to have to possibility of adding IP and an app on our phone to control the alarm and get alerts. Thanks There is one Panel in a system and sometimes many keypads (KPs). Just avoids confusion. Do you know the model number(s) of your Keypads. But you will need to buy as least one 6160 Alphanumeric Keypad for programming. Since you have an XM panel, it supports wireless zones. If you have any wireless sensors (zones 10 and beyond), they will be the older 5700-series wireless technology, not compatible with newer panels, and would need to be replaced for an upgrade, along with a 5881 RF Receiver. How many wireless zones do you have, if any. There is usually a zone list in the keypad cover, or possibly in the Control Panel cabinet. There are 3 keypads in this system:2x N5976v1 and 1x M6896. There are no wireless zones at all, everything has been wired. Unfortunately no diagram on the inside of the cabinet but I have been tracing wires and roughly know where everything is now. Is the Vista -20p the logical step upwards from here ? ThanksMore than likely, you have one of the models on page 68 of the manual: Yes, a V20p is your best choice for an upgrade.

I think you can still get them through ADI-Honeywell I was thinking to replace 6128 with 6160 or 6162, would 6162 work??You can use this with that control panel I replaced an older keypad and just matched the four wires to the terminals on the new keypad. I did have to change my keypad code to match my system as others had pointed out in blogs. The instructions have step-by-step instructions on how to do this. Hope this helps. If so, will they timeout automatically with a Vista 20 panel. The backlight for the LCD screen does time out. The 6165EX keys can be programmed to stay lighted, or turn off after 45 seconds. Personally - I think that most people would want their own system. Will the 6162 keypad work with this system.Do you currently have access to programming your panel.

Are both keypads the same and do you know the model number(s)?Also, it sounds like like it's not really armed and the keypads are lying to you, maybe getting their data fouled. Are both keypads the same and do you know the model number(s). Click to expand. Neither disabled the alarm. I checked the new master code in the upstairs keypad and it was set correctly. Then I checked the downstairs keypad and it had the same new code. Also after leaving the alarm plugged in a couple minutes a 01 fault occured and the beeping went off. This was a known issue before but never stopped the alarm from arming. Put in the code and it stopped the sound but display still says AWAY. Opened the front door and the alarm went off. Put in the code and it would not disarm it. Had to unplug. Keypads are 6137 models.Neither disabled the alarm. Click to expand. You arm or disarm the system; or silence the alarm (sounder wailing) at the keypad with a User Code (including Master Code). Then I checked the downstairs keypad and it had the same new code. Click to expand. I usually check a Master Code by seeing if it will let me change or add another User Code. How are you checking it? The keypads are just interfaces between the User and the panel. Click to expand. A fire zone can't be bypassed except physically. Click to expand. What is Zone 01? Opened the front door and the alarm went off. Had to unplug. Click to expand. The oddest thing is that at one point, your control panel must have been disarmed. The panel won't let you change your Master Code while it's armed. All panel programming can only be done in the disarmed state. I'm guessing your reason for changing the code was to use different digits, in case the old code had a digit that was not making good contact. I'm guessing further that you tried on both keypads to disarm it. I'd like to see if any symptoms change when Zone 1 is physically bypassed. If Z1 is a fire zone, its loop wires are connected to T9 (Terminal 9) and T10.

I have been reading up on the vista 20p that looks very good and might just get that, but I also found the vista21ip that has similar specs (?) and the ip module already build it, is there a gotcha on this one.You will need to replace one of the keypads with a 6160 keypad for programming, if you do the upgrade to a V20p. There's nothing wrong with the 21ip model. The trick is that using the IP functionality pretty much has to run through a central station provider, because it works through the AlarmNet service. It's not just an open IP network connectivity.ADT wanted an arm and a leg to replace it. I found the sensor on Amazon. Does anybody know how to program this sensor in. My installation manual hasn't been much help. Thanks in advance. Thank youWe welcome your comments and. Questions of a Do It Yourself nature should beAll rights reserved. The other night the keypads froze with AWAY lit up. Our code would not unlock it. We checked all the buttons to see if one was stuck but they all worked. Unplugged the unit and checked the connections at the keypads. Reconnected and was able to reprogram the master code through the keypads but then nothing. Could not disable the alarm or switch modes. Could it be the keypads are not communicating with the control panel. How do I test this? We also opened up doors to trigger the alarm while the keypads said AWAY and they didn't trigger. Could this be a bad control panel circuit board?Could not disable the alarm or switch modes. Could this be a bad control panel circuit board. Click to expand. Also, it sounds like like it's not really armed and the keypads are lying to you, maybe getting their data fouled. It could be a bad panel, but it could also be one keypad gone south, that's fouling up the other keypad because they share the multiplex data lines.

You bypass the zone by physically removing (after labeling) the wires from the panel and connecting a 2K-Ohm resistor across the terminals. While you're there, notice whether any 2K resistors are landed (connected) on other terminals, It's a common practice in alarm installations, except for fire zones. Click to expand. Then it reset to the AWAY state. We tried going to AWAY or TEST or anything else and it didn't do anything. How, exactly, did you check the new Master Code. I usually check a Master Code by seeing if it will let me change or add another User Code. How are you checking it. Chime is still showing on the keypad but the door doesn't chime when open. Have not tried to toggle that but will tonight What is on Zone 01. A lot of systems use Zone 1 as a Fire Zone, and if that's the case here, then this would be the time to mention it. A fire zone can't be bypassed except physically. Zone 01 is the fire alarm. We had been receiving 01 a while back and I replaced the smoke detector thinking it would solve it. It didn't. New detector was wired and has a resistor in there just like the old one did. Now that's really odd. The oddest thing is that at one point, your control panel must have been disarmed. Yes, we thought that maybe the old master code was suspect so we changed it. While you're there, notice whether any 2K resistors are landed (connected) on other terminals, It's a common practice in alarm installations, except for fire zones. Let me try this tonight and see what happens. Thanks again for your help. Then it reset to the AWAY state. Click to expand. In fact, the Installer Code can be used to arm the system (I advise against it) and can be used to disarm the system as long as the IC was used to arm the system in that arming event.

But the IC cannot disarm the system if any other means was used to arm: For instance, if the Quik-Arm method was used to arm---which is why I advise against using the IC for anything other than getting into Panel Programming Mode. Try this experiment with the code you're calling the Master Code. If your code gets you into programming, then it's an Installer Code, not a Master Code.We had been receiving 01 a while back and I replaced the smoke detector thinking it would solve it. It didn't. New detector was wired and has a resistor in there just like the old one did. Click to expand. You can decide later whether you want to troubleshoot your fire zone or continue to ignore it. Obviously, as a veteran service tech, I'm going to recommend you fix the Z1 problem, but being able to arm and disarm takes priority, since a working fire zone is worthless if you have to keep your system powered down.I have a hardcopy manual somewhere, but downloading this was quicker than finding it.I had changed the 00 installer code so I went back and did the 01 master code. We still had the 01 fire fault so I bypassed the smoke alarm wires with the EOLR from the actual smoke alarm and that cleared the fault. After checking the manual, I figured out the EOLR was installed across the wrong terminals in the smoke detector so I re-installed it correctly and now the smoke alarm works, the 01 fire fault is gone, and our alarm arms and disarms correctly. Thank you for your help in pointing me in the right direction. I appreciate it.Thanks for posting back and letting me know the outcome.
